  • In 1949, Texas Christian University became the first university in the United States to offer a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Ballet.


  • At Long Island University's Brooklyn Campus, the departments of Dance and Physical Therapy have teamed p with the ADAM Center (Analysis of Dance And Movement) to implement the country's first undergraduate Dance Wellness Program.


  • Winners at the 2008 National College Dance Festival were students from Hollins University and New Mexico State University.


  • Arizona State University's first dance class, Interpretive Dance, was offered through the Department of Physical Education in 1931.
